Role Purpose

The Technical Manager — Irrigation & Greenhouses is a senior leadership role responsible for driving the company’s technical excellence and market positioning in irrigation technologies and greenhouse solutions across Kenya and the broader East African market. As the organisation’s primary subject matter expert, this role bridges commercial strategy and technical delivery, ensuring that design, engineering, and after-sales support consistently meet the highest professional standards.

The role sits on the Senior Leadership Team, reporting directly to the Managing Director, and plays a critical part in shaping the company’s growth strategy, product portfolio decisions, and key client relationships.

Key Responsibilities

Strategic Leadership

• Contribute to the company’s overall strategy as a member of the Senior Leadership Team, providing technical insight to inform commercial decisions.
• Define and execute the technical roadmap for irrigation and greenhouse solutions, aligned to market trends, client needs, and business growth objectives.
• Represent the organisation at industry forums, trade associations, government engagements, and key client meetings as the technical authority.
• Identify emerging technologies, suppliers, and innovations to continuously strengthen the company’s product and service offering.

Boland Irrigation

Boland Irrigation is a growing irrigation design and implementation company based in the Western Cape, specialising in agricultural irrigation systems including drip, micro, sprinkler, and bulk water reticulation.
We are seeking a motivated Irrigation Designer with a hands-on approach to join our team.

The position is available from 1 March 2026.

The office is based in Brackenfell and the successful incumbent will be required to travel when servicing clients.

Key Responsibilities:

• Develop and maintain strong relationships with existing and potential clients in our area.
• Provide expert advice on irrigation systems, tailored to meet the unique needs of each client.
• Conduct site visits, assess client requirements, survey and design appropriate irrigation solutions.
• Stay updated with industry trends, emerging technologies, and best practices in irrigation.
• Work closely with the technical and installation teams to ensure customer satisfaction from consultation to after-sales support.

QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE

• Grade 12
• At least 2 years’ experience in the Irrigation Industry.
• Computer literate (MS Office) is compulsory, Syspro knowledge will be an advantage.
• Self-driven enthusiastic individual that can work independently.
• Be able to function as part of a team.
• Professional customer approach and telephone etiquette required.
• An aptitude towards customer liaison and problem solving.
• Must be able to work under pressure, accurately neat and organized.
• Must be able to multitask and handle any task given to by management.
• A POSITIVE outlook on life, a self-challenging nature, and high levels of ENERGY are required.
• The internal drive to succeed, regardless of the obstacles.
• Willingness to learn new things.
• Be able to speak and write both Afrikaans and English fluently.
• Must be willing to work overtime and on Saturdays.
• Valid Driver’s License.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

• Surveying and setting out of irrigation systems and pipelines.
• Design irrigation systems with the use of Model Maker / IrriCAD.
• Have an understanding of pump selections and designing of pump rooms.
• Draft bill of quantities and work on tenders.
• Familiarity of different irrigation systems.
• Technical assistance to clients as required.
• Travelling is required.

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS:

• Fully proficient in CAD software.
• Good agricultural product knowledge.
• Good communication and interpersonal skills .
• Experience working in the field and attending to installations.
• 3-5 years’ experience in an irrigation environment.
• Previous SABI training.
