Message from President Ian de Jager
|
|
Good day SABI Friends!
We had our first SABI Council meeting for 2021 on March 3. We all look forward to the coming year to work together and serve the SABI members as best as we can. It was a wonderful experience to meet face-to-face again! The team spirit is very positive and we are all working together to grow and expand SABI into a well-oiled machine, which continues to support and grow the irrigation industry and SABI locally and worldwide. I see it as a huge privilege to work with such a team!
You will join me in saying we are all looking forward to the SABI Congress in August in the Eastern Cape in Gqeberha. As always this is a top SABI event, held every two years. You cannot miss it!
SABI will keep on growing into the future as our role as an irrigation institute will increasingly play an important role in the coming future – with the food, water and energy nexus becoming the top priority in all governments. A nation cannot exist without these necessities. |
|
We are still in the process of registering SABI approved designers as a professional designation. This development will mean that more young aspirant designers will be able to choose in future to make irrigation design their occupation.
Our inputs into agricultural schools are expanding every year as more and more schools ask for help from SABI. In this area, Annemarie and her brilliant helpers of SABI members are doing a great job.
This year, like any other year, has new challenges and we must never slow down but rather be creative: using every situation to go the extra mile to do our best for our industry and farmers. Please do continue – come what may with covid and other challenges - to think creatively about new ideas to help your customers grow beyond the horizon in products and profits.
Soon our training will be back to normal – please make use of these opportunities to stay in front of the crowd and lead the Industry…as this is what make SABI an amazing Institute.
All the best for your families and your business for this year! Stay safe and God Bless!

Approved SABI Designers
|
Remember that it is important to accumulate points to maintain your SABI Approved Designer status. There are several Approved Design Members who did not accumulate the required 5 points during the last two-year term.
For example:
- Attend a branch meeting – 1 point
- Attend the SABI Congress – 2 points
Note - due to COVID-19 the SABI Council decided to extend the term to end of 2021 – hence you have until the end of 2021 to earn points.
Becoming a SABI Approved Designer
Corporate members (Fellow/Member) are welcome to write the SABI National Exam. If you are interested, please contact Riana on Riana@sabi.co.za.

SABI Training
|
|
|
We present a variety of technical courses for the agricultural/landscape industry and designers and for irrigation management on farm.
In 2020, we started presenting the Introduction to Irrigation Equipment and Installation online, so students can complete this in their own time wherever they may be.
SABI also conducts irrigation training at 20 agricultural schools in the country. This growing and popular initiative is sponsored by Agrico.
If you want to boost you or your staff’s careers, peruse the options for widely recognised and respected training courses, available in our 2021 Training Brochure (Agriculture & Landscape) - this is available at www.sabi.co.za
You can also complete a registration form online and send it to us at admin@sabi.co.za.

World Water Day 22 March 2021
The theme – What does Water mean to you?
|
“World Water Day takes place each and every year on March 22nd and aims to underline the importance of water. While this may sound simple – and, in many people’s eyes, a bit daft – the lack of clean water around the world, alongside the damaging effects of global warming, water pollution and damaged water tables, is more important to understand than ever.
The initiative is spearheaded by the UN, alongside UNESCO, the World Water Council and the WWF – the one with pandas, not the one with Macho Man Randy Savage and Hulk Hogan. Using the day as a basis for longer-term action, the UN aims to ensure that everyone in the world has access to safe water by 2030, while not impacting the environment.” From Gov.za
