SABI BRANCH MEETINGS 2018

SAB branch meetings are scheduled to take place during February/March, May/June and October/November 2018.

SABI invites company members to take the opportunity of meetings to market their company’s services and products by sponsoring a branch meeting.  If you are interested, please contact Riana on riana@sabi.co.za.  The dates of all the meetings and the invitations will be published on the SABI website.

IrrigationWise Academy

SABI had a series of festive and fun golf days recently. Thank you to all the sponsors and players!

KZN branch golf day -
Simbithi Golf Estate.

Western Cape branch golf day – Kuilsrivier Golf Club.

At this event, sport memorabilia were auctioned with the proceeds donated to the Hope for Mia Cara Medical Fundraising.  Dear six-year-old Mia Cara has leukemia and the funds raised will go to her medical expenses.
Thank you to all at the golf day for your contributions, for opening your hearts and wallets so generously to Mia Cara’s needs.

SABI MAGAZINE

Look out for the December/January 2018 edition of SABI Magazine in your mailbox and while you are on your holiday – in airport lounges, car hires and a host of other high traffic venues.

If you are not already doing so, we would like you to consider -

  • Advertising
  • Submitting an article or a news release
  • Subscribing your clients to Africa’s only irrigation and water conservation magazine as a gift.

We would like to thank all our contributors, readers and loyal advertisers for playing such an important part in the ongoing success of the SABI Magazine.

Be aware

Please be aware that there are publications out there who purport to be selling advertisements “in support” of a SABI editorial in their magazines – and then persuade, by implication, SABI company members to take out advertisements in their publications to kindly “support” the publication of a SABI article.

Of course you may advertise wherever you wish as this is a free market. But we just want to emphasise that SABI does not submit editorials and expect company members to dig deep into their pockets and “support” these articles with advertisements out of loyalty to the Institute.

  • If people do use SABI’s name in this way, please feel free to call us or email us to verify any implications made during the course of a sales session.

SABI IRRIGATON WISE ACADEMY

The training brochure for 2018 is available on the SABI website – www.sabi.co.za – please take the time to have a look and consider signing up for you or your staff’s career growth in the New Year.

Courses are advertised in certain locations. But note it is possible to present any course at different locations – as long as there is a minimum number of learners are interested at a specific venue.

In a moment of great honour for South Africa and local irrigation and engineering, Felix Reinders was appointed as President of the International Commission on Irrigation and Drainage (ICID) in October 2017, at the World Trade Centre in Mexico City, Mexico.

This is the first time that a South African and a son of SADC (Southern African Development Community)  has been appointed as president of ICID, the highly influential international network of drainage and irrigation professionals, with members from over 76 countries around the world.

New Delhi-headquartered ICID – for those not in the know - is a bit like the UN of the irrigation, drainage and water world.

Felix Reinders, who is based at the Agricultural Research Council (ARC) in Pretoria, will enjoy a three year tenure as ICID President.  The ARC, the Department of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, the Department of Water and Sanitation are founder members with SABI, an honorary founder member of the South African National Committee on Irrigation and Drainage (SANCID).

Felix will travel to Canada for his first official engagement as ICID President for its 69th ICID, IEC and Regional Conference.

Felix, a professional engineer who completed his studies in 1979, has dedicated his considerable energies and talents to wisely and tirelessly serving the irrigation and drainage sector over the years.  Also Secretary-Treasurer of SABI and an Honorary Member of SABI (there are only 7 Honorary Members). It was during August this year in Stellenbosch at SABI’s bi-annual Congress that SABI bestowed Honorary Membership on Felix, who has been a SABI council member since 1982 and was 14th President of SABI from 2000 to 2001, receiving his Gold medal in 2005.

Felix has made a huge and multi-dimensional contribution to the sector of irrigation and drainage engineering.
We are so very proud and delighted Felix that you are President of ICID!
