Felix Reinders wins great accolades from SAIAE

SABI Treasurer and well-known irrigation fundi Felix Reinders was recently awarded the double honours of the SAIAE (South African Institute of Agricultural Engineers) Gold Medal and Honorary Membership.  In fact this was Felix’s second SAIAE Gold Medal. To make the occasion very special, a large surprise gathering of friends and colleagues was arranged in Pretoria to toast Felix’s fantastic achievements and to celebrate Mr Irrigation’s 60th Birthday in December.

Felix - as the citation for his Gold Medal said - is very well known locally and worldwide as a specialist in irrigation engineering. Felix lectures, delivers papers and training courses in South Africa and abroad. His talents are also in demand to lead investigations and render assistance in planning and development of projects in irrigation and related fields.

SAIAE’s citation for the Gold Medal for Felix states that “Felix B Reinders has up to and including October 2015 for 30 years in succession served as a Councillor to the Council and at the beginning of his career was appointed a member of the Board in 1985.”

Felix’s membership of SAIAE goes back a long way. He has also served as Chairman of the Pretoria Branch, Vice President and has in fact  served  two terms as President of the Institute.  He has played an important role in the Institutional life of the agricultural engineering discipline, as he has in the irrigation engineering field.

Moreover he has been an Honorary Secretary of SAIAE for 24 years until the present. “It can without contradiction be emphasized that Felix Reinders’ service as Councillor and Honorary Secretary is not services in name only, but indeed of vital importance to keep SAIAE together and for its growth. He is a stalwart for every subsequent president of the Institute – a vital link in the day-to-day existence of SAIAE.

Also in the field of statutory registration of professional engineers in South Africa, Felix has played an important role for several years. He was elected from 1991 as the assistant to the chief representative for Agricultural Engineering at the Engineering Council of South Africa (ECSA), and held this position for 11 years until 2002. In 2003, Felix became the chief representative for agricultural engineering at ECSA. Felix has played an important role as a member of the Professional Advisory Council for ECSA, assisting in fulfilling a huge task with the establishment and implementation of the system of Continuing Professional Education.

Felix is also closely involved in SABI, he is a past president of SABI and is SABI’s Treasurer/Secretary – he has been elected to this post for the past 15 years. He is also an active member of SANCID and is Honorary Vice-President of ICID. “Felix’s continued involvement in these organisations earned his acclaim and recognition as a specialist in irrigation engineering, extends to international level.”

SABI congratulates Felix Reinders on his outstanding and wonderful achievements! We wish Felix all the best for his Birthday on December 21!!!
